Elephant Cave Temple Bali, also known as Goa Gajah, is one of the most famous ancient cave temples near Ubud. This sacred site was built in the 9th century and is known for its dramatic stone-carved entrance, holy bathing pools, and peaceful jungle surroundings. As a result, it has become one of the most important cultural and spiritual landmarks in Bali.
Elephant Cave Temple Bali was originally used as a place for meditation and spiritual practice by Hindu and Buddhist monks. The main cave features a narrow chamber with stone carvings and ancient altars used for prayer. At the front of the temple, visitors can see the famous cave entrance shaped like a giant face, symbolizing protection from evil spirits.
In addition to the cave, the complex also includes sacred bathing pools discovered during restoration works in the 1950s. These pools are decorated with stone statues and were used for ritual purification. Because of their historical value, they are now preserved as an important part of Bali’s cultural heritage.
